Garudan Appalam Depot is founded by Mr. Sekaran and his wife Mrs. Sulokshana Sekaran, in February 1965 at thiruvarur district, thiruthuraipoondi taluk, nedumbalam village, as a small company.
Mr. Sekaran was studied only 2nd standard, after his drop out of the school studies he started working, during this time he was interested of making appalam, so he started learning of making of appalam and soon he started to make his own product of appalam, he started marketing the appalam near by his area by bicycle, with good quality and taste of his appalam, during the period of 1980-1985 he got orders from foreign also, started marketing in Singapore and Malaysia. In Singapore Bhavani Stores in Malaysia Casino Traders are the major exporters of garudan appalam, he also started one more business called ayyappa vermicelli, soon after he handover the company to his son Mr.S.Srinivasan, he started managing the business with his family members, with his wife Mrs. Bindhu, and his son Mr.Gokul Krishnan, and his daughter Miss. Ridhu.
